Makeup + Hair Inspiration

Wow, so you heard earlier that Fairy Godmother Blue, also known as my FMIL has gifted me and my bridal party with hair and makeup. You also know I attempted to DIY my makeup, but my limited makeup skills didn't get too far. So I give you my "real" inspiration aka what I'm giving to the guy or gal doing my hair and makeup!

I'm going to be going for a very '50s vintage/glam look to play up the vintage-ness of my wedding gown. This look is nothing like my everyday and I simply couldn't accomplish it in my own DIY Trials, but I have great trust that a real MUA will be able to make it work.

Now moving onto the hair... originally I thought I'd just curl it and be done with it.... but I am severely curling iron impaired and ended up with weird Shirley Temple Curls every time... don't believe me?...

DIY Makeup Trials

So I finally did it, I sat down [before heading to a Cardinals game- Go Cards!] and did my DIY makeup trial. And for you ladies "DIYing it" I have learned some lessons.... come along and watch...

You may not think I am wearing makeup, but you would be OH-SO-WRONG. I am wearing a heavy amount (for me of foundation, blush and eyeshadow) but the only thing you really see is the lips.

Makeup Inspiration

In my last post I discussed the Green Eyed Debacle of 2009, as I like to call it. But it got me thinking, what do I really want to look like at our wedding? Aside from "radiant" which doesn't really convey a specific message. So I went stalking around, you guessed it, the Bare Escentuals Facebook page. Despite the fact that it had blown up in my face before.

My only problem is this, I have dark dark (nearly black) brown hair and porcelain white skin, which can make me look like a bit of a vampire if the "subtle blush" I'm looking for isn't quite right. So with that in mind, I give you my wedding makeup inspiration, a collection of photos found here there and everywhere for the pale lady!

Just not sure that I can rock the dark lips on the last bride above. I would love to though, so I will be going through my own "bridal makeup trials." Which will consist of me going crazy at the Bare Escentuals store. So far my crazy spree will include (in addition to my Fair foundation and my Warmth blush)

Makeup Don'ts

My MOH just got married this past September, and as her MOH I was in charge of all things makeup. I bought her makeup as part of my gifts and sprung for her to get her makeup done both for the rehearsal dinner (there was not an actual rehearsal for many reasons) and for the actual wedding. So we went to my beloved Bare Escentuals, and I thought I could trust them...This is what I envisioned when I asked for beautiful slightly golden smokey eyes...

Instead I ended up with incredibly heavy green-glitter eyelids and a seriously annoyed look on my face. How  "golden and smokey" translated to green, I will never know. My only guess is that the over zealous young woman at Bare Escentuals heard me say "My bridesmaid dress is green" and that somehow meant "I would love for my eyes to match it exactly but with loads of glitter."

I realize that my personal photos do not capture the true depth of how green and how glittery my eyes truely were. So I did some digging around on the Bare Escentuals website and wouldn't you know it, there was a photo of what my eyes looked like and a link to a You Tube tutorial... I am not kidding.

In the grand scheme of my MOH's wedding, my street-walker level of makeup was really just a blip on the radar. The evening however was not a total failure, we still danced all night to the piano-playing/lounge singer styles of a Richard Cheese sound-a-like.

But it makes you wonder, why didn't I just do my own makeup?! Anything making you think that since you've been the one doing your own makeup all these years, why risk it on such an important day? I certainly am...
