As in...
Mr. & Mrs. George Smith
Mr. AZ's first reaction was that these rules are archaic as they were written in the 17th century and applied only when a woman's only job was to be married and keep house (which is a noble thing, being a stay at home mom is work), but it really doesn't apply to women and couples of today. Needless to say I rather agreed with him. But my mother was adamant that this was how I should address my Aunt and Uncle So I will abide by her decision because it's her sister and she would know best. I also consulted my FMIL as to how she would like her family addressed.
So Mr. AZ and I decided to go with the family's wishes on family invitations. For our young married friends we did decide to use the more progressive...
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
I know, totally liberal ey? I didn't think so, but apparently in the eyes of some family members (my mother) it's very women's lib. (That's actually how she referred to it)
Are you finding yourself addressing your peers in a different way than your older family members?

good post! I never would have thought of this, and just addressed everything mr. & mrs. last name. hmm. now i'm going to check and see if anyone is going to get offended, lol. its amazing how different generations can be though. when i went to visit one of sak's grand uncles they made me stand behind him since a woman entering a house first on a new year is "bad luck". utterly insane.
@Penga that's crazy! I just think alot of these "traditions" are really out dated these days. My mom who doesn't want me to change my name wants me to address married couples by the man's first and last name... it makes no sense! Oh well, weddings=crazy.
BTW I got bee-jected again. :o(
we'll be addressing invites to Mr and Mrs George and Jane Smith ... or in a couple of cases, Mr and Dr George and Jane Smith. : )
@MERgetsMRSed I love you, can I just say that, if I were able to write "Mr. and Mrs. George and Jane Smith" on our save the dates I would, but I am definitely thinking of doing this on our formal invitations. :o) Thanks for the inspiration!
